Anything that the body does, takes a certain amount of energy. For instance, Basal
Metabolic Rate or BMR refers to the amount of energy required by the body to complete
its normal functions such as: maintaining temperature, repairing cells, powering
muscles, breathing, breaking down food, keeping the heart and brain working etc.
BMR differs from person to person and is highly dependent on factors like age, gender,
weight and physical activity. Exercise tends to increase BMR. In fact, BMR generally
stays raised after 30 minutes of physical activity.
